EU: July-October malt exports to third countries only 1% less than a year ago
Taxud malt export statistics for the period between July and 25 October show that EU maltsters exported 826 thousand tonnes of malt (barley equivalent) to third countries, only 1% less than a year ago, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in November.
Principal destinations for the EU malt exports were Brazil with 100 thousand tonnes, Vietnam with 65 thousand tonnes, Nigeria with 59 thousand and Japan with 50 thousand tonnes.
The good export performance is due to steady demand from Africa and Southeast Asia as well large sales to the booming Brazilian beer industries.
The change of barley flows in world markets has favoured malt exports from Australia and the EU, and reduced temporarily (?) sales from China, Russia, and Ukraine, the analysts said.
